Description
In April in Spain we are spoilt by these wonderful flowers all along the beach and cliffs, giving us wonderful colour for the spring. This species of Carpobrotus ("Sour fig") bears bright pink-purple flowers and, like its relatives, forms a sprawling succulent groundcover. It can be distinguished from its related species by its short, stout, gray-green leaves. These are acinaciform: mildly curved and shaped like a sabre, and having the shape of an isosceles triangle in cross-section, if cut perpendicularly.

One more comment.. Just read your description.. Well done! I love good descriptions.. I was a girl in Southern California .. the ocean cliffs were covered with this plant.. Glad to know it's real name.. We called it "Ice Plant" .. It's beautiful all year long..in Winter it takes on copper tones.. Thanks for the pleasant memories! Dona Dugay
